From Garden to Cup: The Story of meadow tea & Meadow Tea

Introduction:

Picture this: the fragrant steam rising from a warm mug, the delicate aroma of mint and lemon dancing in the air. This is the magic of meadow tea, a brew that evokes memories of sun-drenched gardens and the simple pleasures of nature.  It's also the inspiration behind Meadow Tea, my new store in the heart of Edinburgh, where we're passionate about bringing you the highest quality natural and organic loose-leaf teas, herbs, and more.

The Story of Meadow Tea (the Drink):

Meadow tea, in its simplest form, is a refreshing infusion of herbs. It’s a drink that connects us to the earth, reminding us of the power of nature's remedies. My own memories of meadow tea go back to my childhood, when my mom would send me out to our garden to gather fresh mint, lemon balm, and nettle. These simple ingredients, steeped in hot water, created a vibrant and flavorful drink that I absolutely adored. It was a taste of pure, unadulterated goodness.

And now, I want to share that taste with you. Here’s a simple recipe for my version of meadow tea:

• Ingredients (per 500ml water):

  • A handful of fresh mint leaves
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • A few leaves of lemon balm

• Instructions:

  1. Gently wash the mint and lemon balm leaves.
  2. Bring the water to a boil.
  3. Place the herbs in a teapot or mug.
  4. Pour the boiling water over the herbs.
  5. Add the lemon juice.
  6. Steep for 5-7 minutes, or until the desired strength is reached.
  7. Strain and enjoy!

The result is a bright, invigorating tea with a refreshing minty base, a zesty touch of lemon, and the calming notes of lemon balm. It’s the perfect drink to soothe your soul and invigorate your senses.

 

The Story of Meadow Tea (the Store):

My journey to opening Meadow Tea was fueled by a similar passion for natural ingredients.  Back in my student days, I became fascinated by the world of herbs.  But I quickly noticed a gap in the market: high-quality herbs and teas were hard to find at reasonable prices.  So, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

After years of experience as a Bar Manager, I felt ready to embark on my own entrepreneurial adventure. I envisioned a store that not only offered exceptional teas and herbs but also supported local artists and prioritized sustainability and ethical sourcing. And so, Meadow Tea was born.

We opened our doors in beautiful Edinburgh on November 18, 2024, and launched our online store in February 2025. At Meadow Tea, you’ll find a carefully curated selection of natural and organic loose-leaf teas, herbs, teaware, gifts, and accessories. We're committed to bringing you the highest quality products while supporting local artisans and minimizing our environmental impact.
